244) Day 12 -- Reason #12 to revolt against predatory capitalism
Fires, war, bombings, genocide -- they are all, in a sense, the same. They are unimaginably terrible. They massacre children. Indiscriminately. Tear limbs off, blow bodies to bits, burn babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents, erase families and communities from existence. The suffering caused by these things cannot be calculated.
And they are the same because WE CAUSE THEM. Or rather, our system of predatory capitalism, causes them. Which is, of course, a human invention. We created it, we perpetuate it, and we suffer within it.
I mean, just think -- People get devastated when one, single family member dies. They get devastated when their beloved cat or dog dies. How do you wrap your mind around something like Gaza? When EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER KNOWN, vanishes to bombs, fires, starvation, and bullets?
And yet, we cooperate with, and thereby perpetuate, the system that CAUSES these things, every day of every year at a scale that affects thousands, indeed millions of people. And we call it "progress". And our politicians call it "Freedom".
Why? Because it makes some people very wealthy. That's it. That's the reason this system exists.
I am reminded of Pascal's wager with regards to hell. If you include the possibility of "infinite suffering" as the outcome to a choice, then that choice is insane, even if the chances are pretty low.
But the chances of mass destruction and infinite suffering due to predatory capitalism are not low. They are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.
Humans have created a system that ONE HUNDRED PERCENT GUARANTEES unimaginable suffering.
So take a look at the Palisades in LA. Look at the now-homeless families who have lost everything. And take a look at Gaza. Look at the maimed children and devastated people who don't even have a single remaining hospital to go to anymore, who can't even get pain medication for their burns, hell, who can't even get food or clean water much of the time.
OUR system causes this. And it will continue to do so. We will continue to burn. Bomb. Maim. And destroy.
So that some people can get absurdly wealthy, and then what? "Trickle down that wealth?"
No, we don't even get that, for all this suffering. What we get is a system of control, and we are not the ones in control. We are the ones who suffer, whenever "the system" decides it's our turn.
And so are the animals. And so is the land.
We have given up our freedom, the sacredness of family. We have given up the love of mothers and fathers, the futures of children, the hope of entire peoples.
And we need to get it back.
