247) Day 15 -- Reason #15 to revolt against Predatory Capitalism

For several decades now, we’ve been propagandized to the point of damn-near brainwashing, by the biggest media machine in the world, which owns/funds most of talk radio, many newspapers, podcasters and other influencers (like good ol’ Jordan Peterson, grifting on his bullshit to make himself wealthier and wealthier), “think tanks” like the Heritage Foundation, and “voices of the people” organizations like Canada Proud, Ontario Proud etc.

In conjunction with these hyper-capitalist, usually extreme right-wing organizations, which lie every day to the public, producing THOUSANDS of pieces of media content, retweeted and reposted MILLIONS of times by a network of “influencers”, “concerned citizens”, and bots, the public has been flooded with absurd untruths about the state of the world. For DECADES.

The “climate change is a hoax” narrative is one of the most egregious of these, holding human civilization under a guillotine so that Captains of Industry can remain wealthy and powerful.

I remember reading articles about the coming insurance-catastrophe, THIRTY YEARS AGO, circulated amongst the re-insurer companies — which are ginormous pots of money that insure the insurance companies.

The re-insurers knew, decades ago, that climate change costs for insurance companies were going to rise to uncontrollable levels in the near-to-medium future.  Which is happening…now. Literally now, in 2025.

But for many years, we were told climate change either wasn’t happening, or that the economy would drive innovation and save us all (just trust Industry!).  And we were told this by MANY people at the very top.  

Some emphasized outright denial of climate change; Sen. Jim Inhofe was one of the worst of these but there are countless of them.

Some emphasized the narrative that we need to “drill baby drill” and grow the fossil-economy even more because it’s so central to driving human well-being and innovation; Canada’s former Prime Minister, who then went on to spear-head an international body of autocrats seeking to shift governments, globally, towards right-wing authoritarianism, was one of the worst of these.

And in the media?  It’s endless, the con-men and liars and utter moral degenerates, telling their audiences-of-millions that climate change is a hoax, and outright ridiculing scientists (like Michael Mann, a stunning researcher who is HATED by the right-wing anti-climate-science folks).  There are so many that are “the worst” it’s hard to know who to even name.  But if you want to look up this legacy of outright, planet-killing bullshit, I’d suggest starting with Glen Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Pete Hegseth.

Note, Pete Hegseth, with no qualifications to speak of, is about to become Trump’s Secretary of Defense.  And while the Pentagon has been planning at the highest levels for the international destabilization that climate change will cause (I personally read some of their internal planning documents in the early 2000s), they will now be headed by a man who doesn’t even believe in it.

While all this was happening, climate change accelerated, and the re-insurance companies knew it, and have been preparing for at least 30 years.

And now, here we are.  Insurance is nearing a breaking point, and a key solution that remains, other than simply not giving people insurance especially in “high risk areas”, is to encourage people to simply abandon those areas.  That’s right, after decades of being told “it’s no problem”, now cherished, long-settled areas of our planet are becoming “unliveable.”

Which is exactly what climate scientists told us would happen….decades ago.

This is why, again, a revolt against predatory capitalism is critically necessary at this stage of human history.  We’ve let the “masters of industry” have power over us to the point that we are on the brink of no longer being able to LIVE in many areas of the world.  And this is just the beginning.  This is where we’re at with 1.5 degrees of global warming.

Once we hit 3?  4?  The mass migrations of human refugees that we’ve seen already, triggering hysterical racist reactions in countries like the US (as we see with the voting base of Trump), the destabilization of governments in Europe that we’re now seeing as right-wing populism, grounded in racism, take hold of formerly progressive societies, will look like “the good ol’ days.”

Shit is getting worse.  Fast.  And the powers-that-be knew it all along.  And lied to us.
